Assessment
A decade in New York
Elite French Tutoring has taught French in New York for over a decade. In that time we have worked with United Nations diplomats, Fortune 500 executives, families on the Upper West Side, and children preparing for the entrance examinations of the city’s French schools. What unites them is a preference for instruction shaped entirely around the individual rather than the group.
Every student studies one to one with a certified, native French teacher on a program built around their goals, their level, and the way they learn. The emphasis throughout is on speaking French with genuine confidence.
Each program begins with a complimentary 10–20 minute assessment. Lessons can often begin within days.
ADULT
I work at the United Nations. I've been working with André for about a year and have seen marked improvement in my French conversation.
KIDS
Cyril works with my fourteen year old weekly. Her knowledge of grammar and ability to converse has really accelerated since she started.
ADULT
Raphaël has been teaching me French for 3 years. Fun and intellectually stimulating. Always on time and flexible with the schedule.
KIDS
Olivier tutors my two sons weekly. He tailors his approach to each child's level. My boys genuinely look forward to their lessons.
Core method
Most people who come to us want the same thing in the end: to speak. Our conversational French lessons are built around exactly that. From the first session, you are speaking French, guided and corrected by a native teacher, until holding a real conversation feels natural rather than rehearsed.
This is the heart of the EFT approach. Grammar, vocabulary, and reading all have their place, and your teacher weaves them in as you need them, but they serve the goal of confident speech rather than replacing it. Whether you are preparing for travel, for professional life, or for a French-speaking family, our French conversation classes are designed to get you talking with ease.
Fast-track
Some students arrive with a deadline: a relocation to Paris, a posting abroad, an examination, a new role that requires French within weeks. For them, we offer intensive French courses: several sessions a week, often with more than one teacher, covering multiple areas of the language at once.
An intensive program compresses months of progress into a far shorter span. The structure is demanding by design, the pace brisk, and the results, for motivated learners, considerable. If you have a date on the calendar, tell us, and we will build a program to meet it.
Starting from zero
If you are starting from nothing, you are in good company. Many of our students began with no French at all. French lessons for beginners are among the most rewarding work we do, precisely because the early progress is so visible. The opening stages of the language are highly structured, and a skilled teacher moves you through them quickly and comfortably.
Because every program is private, a beginner is never lost in a crowded room or held to a group’s pace. You build a foundation at your own speed, with a teacher whose full attention is on you.

Why private
New York has no shortage of language schools, and they have their place. But a classroom moves at the pace of the group, on a fixed calendar, with a syllabus set in advance. Private French coaching is a different proposition altogether.
Here, your level sets the pace. Your goals shape the curriculum: business French for a Midtown firm, conversational French for a partner’s family, examination work for the DELF or DALF. There are no semester start dates and no waiting; once your assessment is done, lessons can begin within days, and reschedule without penalty. For many of our students, this is the first time learning French has felt built for them rather than around them.

Most dedicated learners advance one full CEFR level every three to six months with regular private instruction.

Initial assessment
10–20 minutes · No obligation
Entirely. After your assessment, your teacher builds a program around your level, your goals, and the way you learn — and adjusts it as you progress.
Yes. For students working toward a deadline, we arrange several sessions a week, often with more than one teacher, to compress months of progress into a far shorter span.
Not at all. The early stages are highly structured, and a private teacher moves you through them quickly and comfortably.
A school moves at the pace of the group, on a fixed calendar. With private coaching, your level sets the pace and your goals shape the curriculum. The entire lesson is built around you.
Both. Your teacher can come to you across Manhattan, with dedicated programs in Brooklyn and Queens. Online lessons are available everywhere else.
Once your complimentary assessment is complete, lessons can often begin within days.
Every program begins with a brief call of 10 to 20 minutes to discuss your level, your goals, and the path between them. No fee, no obligation.
